Ronald L. Van Heertum, MD, Director of the Morton A. Kreitchman PET Center, is Professor of Radiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Vice Chairman of Administration for the Department of Radiology, and Director of the Division of Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Van Heertum is internationally well known for his work with applications of SPECT and PET brain imaging. He currently is Chairman of the Nuclear Medicine Accreditation Committee, Chairman of the Accreditation Chief's Committee and a member of the Commission on Quality & Safety of the American College of Radiology and immediate past Chairman of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine.

Sabahat Bokhari, MD, is Director of Cardiac PET at the Columbia Kreitchman PET Center, as well as Assistant Professor of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He received his medical training from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, and completed his cardiology training at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London, followed by a nuclear cardiology fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He is board certified in internal medicine and nuclear cardiology.

Peter D. Esser, PhD, is Professor of Clinical Radiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Chief Physicist for the Columbia Kreitchman PET Center. He is a past president of the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine and a member of the Nuclear Accreditation Committee of the American College of Radiology. Dr. Esser is a board certified medical physicist with extensive experience in Nuclear Medicine and PET. With research interests that emphasize image enhancement techniques, he has edited four books and coauthored numerous papers.

Rashid A. Fawwaz, MD, PhD, is Professor of Clinical Radiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Fawwaz has extensive experience in the field of tumor imaging and therapy, having authored numerous articles and received several patents in the field. At the University of California, Berkeley, he was involved in the synthesis and imaging of the first positron emitting compound. He is currently actively involved in developing new techniques designed to optimize (PET) imaging.

Masanori Ichise, MD, FRCPC, is Medical Director of the Morton A.Kreitchman PET Center, Professor of Clinical Radiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Co-director of the Division of Nuclear Medicine. An internationally recognized researcher in PET and SPECT imaging of patients with neuropsychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, he is well known for his expertise in the quantification of imaging results. He has authored numerous articles and pioneered multiple techniques for PET/SPECT analysis of brain chemistry. Before coming to Columbia, he was Director of the Brain Molecular Imaging Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and conducted research at Harvard Medical School. Previously, he was a molecular imaging principal investigator at the NIH.

J. S. Dileep Kumar, PhD, is the Director of Radioisotope & Radioligand Production, as well as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He also holds a Research Scientist position in the Division of Molecular Imaging and Neuropathology of the New York State Psychiatric Institute. His research interests focus on the development of PET tracers for in vivo quantification of biochemical function and disorders.

John Mann, MD, is Director of the Division of Neuroscience and Professor of Psychiatry and Radiology, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is also Chief of Psychiatric Research at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. Dr. Mann’s research focuses on how PET’s ability to measure very small concentrations of chemical in the brain may revolutionize the understanding of psychiatric conditions and help researchers develop new treatments faster. |

Chitra Saxena, MPH, has managed the clinical and research undertakings of the Kreitchman PET Center imaging facility, for 14 years. In addition to explaining PET procedures to patients and overseeing the scanning process, Chitra has expertise in analyzing research and clinical data. For the past four years, Chitra has lectured throughout the country on effective PET center management and is the author or co-author of several publications.

Michael Agnello, RPh, BCNP, Radiopharmacy Director, has over 11 years experience as a nuclear pharmacist and was Board certified in nuclear pharmacy in 1998. Prior to joining Columbia, he was manager of Pharmalogic PET Services of New Jersey, and has spent the past six years working in PET. He received his cyclotron training in Uppsala, Sweden and was Clinical Instructor of Nuclear Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy from 2002-2003. Mike serves on Columbia's Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC), Joint Radiation Safety Committee (JRSC), and PET Sub-Committee, and teaches nuclear pharmacy practices to Columbia radiology residents and fellows. |
